PENDULAR (FOR C. BRANCUSI)

The collection is inspired by the work of the Romanian artist Constantin Brancusi. His sculptural works were based on a sequence of ideas and forms that suggested an evolution, they were built in an ascending direction, from floor to ceiling, integrating the base as a significant sculptural element. Using this same logic, I tried to create a piece that worked in reverse order, placing it from ceiling to floor, suspended like a pendulum. I use the same materials that he used to use, metal, mirrors, wood, modern geometric shapes and refined finishes, together with more traditional sculpture processes.

This group of works proposes a reflection on the idea of transcendence. Each work begins with a thread suspended from the ceiling from which hangs a polished wooden shoe mold that supports a mirror. The first work of the series begins with the most concrete shape, a half-moon crescent that develops into a kind of body - weight - evolution, culminating in an elongated shape that resembles a seed. In the subsequent works, the shape of the mirror is stretched, directed downward, affected by weight and the force of gravity. By their nature, these works integrate themselves to the space that hosts them, the rotating movement of the mirror reflects momentary flashes that dialogue with the environment.

The constant and the variations of this sequence is perceived in the outline of the suspended mirrors, whose sharp edge suggests the figure of a guillotine. The wooden shoe assimilates a human foot and brings forth the idea that with our toes we can suspend something very heavy like the ego, the internal reflection. Each wooden shoe mold used is unique, cut in a similar way but with different details. Each one is placed with a gold pin needle that penetrates the wood and crosses the form at a different point in relation to the acupuncture of the foot, on a different nerve, linked to the sensation of pain or that through pain a path of consciousness and wisdom is found.

This object-reflection alludes to a body that hangs by a single thread, accumulating a tension that levitates over us with a feeling of fragility and oscillates with a strange elegance.
