In 2011, the World Health Organization (WHO) listed the air of the city of Ahwaz, Iran as the most polluted air in the world. With a PM10 level of around 372, the air in Ahwaz is three times as polluted as the air in Beijing, China. In November 2014, the artist travelled to Ahwaz to collect some of its air. The air was then transported to Germany and filled into a custom-made glass ampoule, which is now carrying Air d’Ahwaz.
