Formas Integras is a project divided into three moments. Each one will link different ways of approaching the book – from illustration, design, games and editing – exploring the work of designers who have led Edgar Orlaineta to think of the book as an object and consider it in its entirety, from how the Covers, endpapers, format, typography, and the management of its contents are aspects that allow the book and its sequence of images to promote a unique visual communication.
The influence of these four artists – Alvin Lustig (Denver, 1915 – New York, 1955), Ilona Karasz (Budapest, 1896 – New York, 1981), Bruno Munari (Milan, 1907-1998) and Sophie Taeuber (Davos, 1889 – Zurich, 1943) – linked to design, art and crafts, have exercised in the work of Edgar Orlaineta, is the starting point for thinking about the book as an element of imagination, thought and play, and how the category of artist's book It is confused, lost or not necessary when our relationship with the book and its creation has a history linked to other disciplines or personal affections.
For this reason, in each of the reviews dedicated to these creators, an artist's book from the museum's collection linked to the work of the designer in turn will be taken as reference. This with the intention of breaking the borders between the idea of the book and the artist's book, as we see in the work of Orlaineta, where the definition of categories such as art and design are blurred to be considered as places from which we relate to artists. objects. The expressiveness, color and use of materials function as an invitation for the viewer and reader to understand that the playful element of the book is related to multiple disciplines and knowledge.
