With the extensive exhibition of André Butzer's work, the GfG Society for Contemporary Art is building on its large monographic exhibitions of the 1990s. Since its foundation, important groups of works by Georg Baselitz, Günther Förg, Albert Oehlen and AR Penck have been shown in Augsburg for the first time. Even the design of the exhibition catalogue consciously draws on one of the first GfG catalogues, namely that of Förg from 1994.
Butzer has created a cycle of 27 works on paper especially for the GfG, supplemented by a retrospective collection of 22 sheets, the oldest of which dates from 2000. In addition to the diverse drawings and watercolors, there are seven paintings of very different sizes. This compilation provides an exemplary introduction to Butzer's oeuvre. The entire world of themes and his typical figures become comprehensible in their uniqueness and development.
