Michael Sailstorfer | Group Exhibition

Tiergarten Nürnberg

Under the title "Rroooaaarr!", Students of the art class of Prof. Michael Sailstorfer of the Academy of Fine Arts will exhibit their works in the Tiergarten of the city of Nuremberg from Thursday, June 27, 2019. Distributed over the entire Tiergarten area are temporary interventions or permanent sculptures, which enter into a kind of artistic dialogue with the animals living there. The exhibition is expected to be on view by October 31, 2019 for all visitors to Tiergarten.

What are the parallels between an art academy and a zoo? In collaboration with the Nuremberg Zoo, the class of Prof. Michael Sailstorfer designed an exhibition. Several animal enclosures were equipped with temporary interventions or permanent sculptures - which are in dialogue with the animals living there.

Developing art in dialogue with living animals not only presents a special opportunity, but also a challenge for the students. The latter can be explained by the strongly connoted context, as well as by the fact that the work can only be done in consultation with the animal caretakers Animal carers can be realized. At the same time, however, there is also the opportunity to try out artistic approaches in public space and to think ahead.
